The
Charterhouse Museum has been created in an independent
wing of the Charterhouse Monastery and involves 20 rooms,
covering more or less 1200 square meters.
The museum is intended as a spiritual tour through the
history of Charterhouses in Calabry. To guide you on
your way there are instructive panels, photos, models
and reconstructed spaces (a friar's cell, the library)
and an audiovisual show. Among the most precious objects
there are paintings from the XVIth and XVIIth century,
legal documents from the XVIIth century and a statue of
steatite presenting St. Stefano.
The visit time can vary from 45 to 90 minutes, whereas
the audivisual show takes 10 minutes.
Through this museum you have the unique possibility to
learn the story of the Charterhouse order since it was
founded by St. Bruno in 1091. The Charterhouse of San
Bruno was the home of the Saint during the last decade
of his life. Among the 40 Charterhouses existing in
Italy, this is one of the two that are still inhabited
by friars.
